History of IAIN Kerinci

A. Early Stand

The existence of the State Islamic Institute (STAIN) Kerinci originated from the Faculty of Sharia Muhammadiyah which was established in 1964. The establishment of the Faculty of Sharia Muhammadiyah is being led by some leaders, among others, is KH. David Qahiri and Sutan Abdullah Arifin, and fully supported by the Regent of KDH Tk. II Kerinci (Syamsu Bahrun) and Danres Kerinci (Drs. Sukamto). At the beginning of the establishment of the Faculty of Sharia Muhammadiyah led by Drs Sukamto (as Dean) and Sutan Abdullah Arifin (as secretary of the Faculty).
Efforts to improve the status of the Faculty of Sharia Muhammadiyah Kerinci became a College which was initiated by its leaders has received support from the community and Islamic organizations Kerinci, both located in the area as well as those residing outside Kerinci.

In Jambi there Drs. Adnan H. Rush, Prof. HMO Bafadhal (Pioneers and Builders Jambi IAIN STS) and KH. Abdul Kadir (NU Prop.Jambi Chairman / Member of Parliament). H. Ramli (Kaknwil MORA Prop. Jambi) and Munir, BA (Member of Parliament / Secretary NU Jambi), while in Jakarta this struggle was assisted by Prof. Mahmud Yunus Purwo, SH (Kaur College of the Ministry of RI) and H. Munir Manaf.

IAIN STS Jambi at the time, already had a domestic faculties, namely the Faculty of Sharia al-Hikmah College YPI Jambi, which has been established since 1960 and in 1963 became a faculty of Shariah branch dinegerikan IAIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, later became Faculty of Shariah IAIN Raden Patah Pelembang Jambi branch, in addition to the existing Faculty of MT and Ushuluddin foundation al-Maarif College of Jambi which had stood since July 11, 1965.

Based on MPR decree 11 of 1960 and Regulation of the Minister of Religion No. 5 1963 that in order to establish a minimum IAIN must have at least three faculty, in addition must have a sufficient number of students. At that time, the number of students of the Faculty of Sharia al-Hikmah College of Jambi, Faculty of MT and Ushuluddin Yayasan Al-Maarif College Jambi inadequate while the Faculty of Sharia Muhammadiyah Kerinci own students enough for the Faculty.

To fulfill the wishes of the people, the clergy, the local government Tk. II Kerinci and local government Tk. I Jambi, the faculty of Shariah Muhammadiyah proposed Kerinci became a faculty in Jambi IAIN STS together with the Faculty of Shariah IAIN Raden Severe Pelembang Jambi Branch, Tarbiyah faculty and faculty of the Higher Education Foundation Ushuluddin al-Maarif Jambi.

Having held the founding ceremony Jambi IAIN STS, the Friday afternoon of September 8 1967, KH. David Qahiri and colleagues invited to meet with Mr. Purwo SH (head of the Bureau of Higher Education Ministry of RI) above a government-owned motorcycle boot Tk. This effort really produce the expected results, since eighteen days after the departure of the Minister of Religion and the group returned to Jakarta, ditetapkanlah SK penegerian Faculty of Shariah Muhammadiyah Full River Kerinci namely SK Minister of Religious Affairs. No. 116 of 1967 dated 27 September 1967 regarding the Shariah faculty Muhammadiyah penegerian Full River into the Faculty Syari; ah IAIN Sulthan Taha Saipuddin Kerinci branch. In the first year of the Faculty of Sharia IAIN STS penegerian Jambi Kerinci branch registered 70 students for academic education with a Bachelor's degree graduation (BA) and active 3-year study period. B. STAIN Kerinci Mandiri

Within five years after nationalization, there is always a gradual addition of permanent lecturers, namely in 1968/1969 came two (2) persons, namely Drs. H. Amiruddin Bakri, and Drs. Aminullah H. In the beginning until the implementation of doctoral education. This status also causes include imbalances relationship with the University-College and other institutions. In 1997 out of the Republic of Indonesia Presidential Decree 11 of 1997 on the establishment of the College of Islamic Religious Affairs, Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. dr.H.Tarmizi Thaher on 25 Syafar 1418 H coincides with the date of June 30, 1997 M, opened officially opening College of Islamic Religion of State in Indonesia totaling 33 pieces, including the inauguration of the Faculty of Sharia Kerinci became State Islamic Institute (STAIN) Kerinci held handover over the status of the Rector of STS Jambi father Prof. Dr. H. In the first year became STAIN (1997) has opened educational program profsi Act IV, in 1998/1999 Academic Education program is opened again S1 Department tarbiyah, with two studies program (PAI and KI) and 1 (one) Professional Education Program, which is D2

In the academic year 1998/1999 STAIN kerinci own two (2) Academic education programs S1, namely:

Department of Shari'ah with two (2) Studies are: Akhwal al-Asyakhsiyah (AS) and Tenets (M).
Programs MT, with two (2) Studies program, which the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) and the Islamic Education (KI) Program PendidikanProfesional, namely Act IV and D2 (PGAI and PGMI).
This situation runs until 2003, and in the academic year 2004/2005 at the Department of MT have opened Program Tadris Arabic and English Studies program Tadris and opened again in 2005/2006 Study program Mathematics and Biology. Over the past four years, 2008/2009 2011/2012 s.d. In the 2011/2012 period, STAIN has from opening new study programs include Islamic Education Management (MPI) and the Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI). The struggle to develop STAIN Kerinci to exist and thrive into Islamic Universities leading in this area is part of the answer to the state of Indonesia which was hit by a multidimensional crisis and is believed to only be able to appear and move through improving the quality of human resources, thus enabling bounce back and strengthen confidence in her ability. Efforts to raise yourself back should be comprehensive to advance the field of education, research and Community Service.

Education required the nation today is an institution that combines advances in science and technology (science) and the confidence of faith and piety (imtak). Dualism, even a dichotomous antagonism, between these two important aspects of life that have turned out to produce on the one side the scientists and technocrats are clever but unscrupulous, and on the other hand, pious religious leaders but not responsive to change.

One of the institutions that play an important role are college and, already should be, universities are directed to study and teach Islam to assume greater responsibility. That responsibility becomes even more important for universities sponsored and initiated by the state that the representation for all Indonesian people.

State Islamic Institute (STAIN) Kerinci, specializing the assessment in the field of Islamic religion and the sciences keilslaman, has made a positive contribution and strategic contribution in the development of society, the nation and the state, especially in this region. However, this does not mean STAIN to be complacent and put itself like an ivory tower, but must foster and develop itself to be a center of excellence (center of excellence) and a pioneering source (source of pioneerhip). STAIN enhancement and development efforts should be realized among other things by establishing the vision, mission reinforce and strengthen infrastructure, and increased status. To meet the needs of society and government, as well as the demands of the times, then STAIN Kerinci need to be upgraded to a IAIN.
